I was happy to discover this screen.
It has two typos in the section below that you might want to correct:

"The quotation comes from Marianne Williamsons, “A Return to Love: Reflections on the principles of a course in miracles”. It was made famous by Nelson Mandela when he used it in his inauguration speech in 1994 when he became president of South Africa and often get’s incorrectly attributed to him."

Williamsons should be Williamson's
and
often get’s should be often gets

a misplaced apostrophe

Thanks for this, Catherine, I'm amazed at the way stores don't seem to think about the 'human connection' aspect of customer service. Great blog - look forward to the next one ;-)

A wonderful post, Catherine! Who hasn't witnessed an interaction which was like watching a train wreck in slow motion. Wouldn't you have loved to say something like, "hey, do you realize what's happening here? You're feeling x and you're feeling y and that's why you can't work this out. Let's just start by acknowledging both of your feelings about this situation." ;-)

But that probably wouldn't be the best away to help with the situation! ;-)

Hi Tracy, thanks for your comment. I really liked that you used the word "appreciation"! Appreciation is very relevant. Appreciation is stopping to consider what we have, what we've done, who we have in our lives - it is positively thinking about the 'here and now.' I also liked that you talked about "awareness" - again, awareness happens in the 'here and now', of self and others - critical to act in emotionally intelligent ways! Thanks again and nice to hear from you - as always! David

Hi David!
Thanks for the Emotional Intelligence of 'Being Here' Now. Over the years I have come to see the need to live in the moment - to absolutely stop - and take in whatever is staring me in the face. I wonder if this has something to do with age? Could it have something to do with the realization of our own mortality? Similar to appreciation, it becomes more pronounced through experience - especially if the experience causes pain and loss. Robert Starratt (Ethical Leadership) also speaks of the importance of presence in order to lead authentically. I believe that the strength of any relationship has its roots in presence. Awareness of self and others begins here now - cause we may never get to the there then - and that's just sad.
