Emotional Ponderings
I find it fascinating, “how fascinating!”, that one can be in “one of those moods” and not realize it. It’s like a switch can flip and it can cause people to become blind to their own circumstances. Okay, okay, it was me and I was in a mood that caused me to be extremely difficult to be around. Talk about being emotionally unintelligent! Has it ever happened that the person you most want to have peace and harmony with just seems so unreasonable and everything they do and everything they say ‘bugs’ you and you are quite certain they are the problem? Meanwhile you are feeling smug because you think you are right and frustrated that you cannot get your point across – or be understood at all.
This was my day yesterday. It was a holiday Monday and precious time with my life’s partner and I spent pretty much the whole day being a jerk because I was unable to see how my emotions left me completely incapacitated to be ‘reasonable.’ Meaning that I was unable to use reason in relating with her. It really underlined for me the importance of being in touch with your feelings so that when you are in such a state, you can take steps to get of said state and make your way back to a state in which you can be effective. That’s emotional intelligence, that’s leadership – recognizing when you are being ineffective and taking steps to ‘get back on track.’ Wow, easier said than done ;-)
