Stunning speech giving tribute to his mom: Kevin Durant demonstrates wisdom

When Kevin Durant started his acceptance speech for winning the Most Valuable Player of the NBA in 2014, no one knew what was coming. Perhaps we were expecting sports cliches about teamwork and giving a hundred and ten percent.
Instead what we got was a laser beam speech spoken directly by Durant to his mother, Wanda Pratt, clearly identifying her as the MVP.
His speech is special because it’s unscripted. It’s powerfully moving because it’s authentic and Durant demonstrates how aware he is of his own emotions. He’s also so capable at expressing those emotions in a way that resonated with everybody in the audience and everybody that has viewed the video.
It’s a valuable primer in the value and power of emotional intelligence skills.
