Technology, something and design: ted.com
My pick for website of the month is www.ted.com.
I always mention ted.com in all my courses and am continually amazed at all the people who have not yet had the pleasure of viewing a “tedtalk.” TED is a small nonprofit devoted to Ideas Worth Spreading. It started out in 1984 as a conference bringing together the most intelligent people in the world from three areas: Technology, Entertainment, Design. (Oops! I’ve been telling people the E stood for Education because so many talks are about Education I just assumed…)
Since then its scope has become ever broader (to include Education ;-). Along with the TED Conference in Long Beach and Palm Springs each spring, and the TEDGlobal conference in Oxford UK each summer, TED includes the award-winning TEDTalks video site, the Open Translation Project and Open TV Project, the inspiring TED Fellows and TEDx programs, and the annual TED Prize. I must thank my wonderful daughter and her partner (also my wonderful graphic designers and webmasters) Becky and Sherwin for introducing me to ted.com. Check it out and enjoy a ‘tedtalk’ today!
